Blue Woodlice Detectives

Join the BlueWoodlice detectives in a hunt for infected woodlice. Blue woodlice are not photoshopped! Woodlice (or pillbugs or roly polys) can be infected by a virus (called iridovirus) that forms crystals in their shell. The crystalline structure gives the infected woodlice an intense blue or purple colour. The virus is not contagious to humans!

We need you to go on the hunt for woodlice, report your findings (even if they are grey!) and if you find blue ones you can send them to us! Look at the video below and go to "contribute" for more details. To obtain a certificate, fill the form under "map" even if the woodlice were grey.
