Woodlice are crustaceans (like shrimps and lobsters) not insects

  • 0.1 to 1.1 inches (0.2 to 2.5 cm)
     

  • They have a tough outer shell (called exoskeleton)
     

  • 7 pairs of legs

Woodlice can be infected by an iridovirus. At the height of infection, the virus forms crystal structures in the woodlice's cells, leading to a blue-purple colour
